The problem with standard wall packs

  • They throw light upward and sideways, into the sky and into neighboring windows.
  • Glare and light trespass are exactly what municipal and HOA lighting ordinances cite.
  • Every lumen aimed at the sky is energy you paid for and cannot use.

The fix: full cutoff optics

  • Full cutoff housings emit zero light above the horizontal. Everything lands on your property.
  • That is the standard most dark-sky and outdoor-lighting ordinances are written around.
  • The WP11F is full cutoff and DLC Premium, so it also qualifies for utility rebates.

Put every lumen on the ground where you need it, and pass the lighting ordinance while you are at it.

What full cutoff actually means

Wall packs differ in where they let light go. The housing decides, not the bulb.

Standard wall pack

Light escapes above the horizontal into the sky and sideways into neighboring lots. Bright, but this is the glare ordinances are written against.

Forward throw (Type IV)

Pushes light out and away from the wall to cover pathways and perimeter. Our WP09 is Type IV: reach without the uplight of an old-style flood.

Full cutoff

Zero light above the horizontal plane of the fixture. Everything lands on the wall and ground below. This is what dark-sky ordinances ask for.

Where you will be asked for it

More and more jurisdictions regulate outdoor lighting. If any of these apply to your property, spec full cutoff from the start instead of replacing fixtures after a citation.

Municipal outdoor-lighting and anti-glare ordinances
HOA and planned-community lighting rules
Dark-sky communities and observatory zones
Walls facing property lines, homes, or roadways

Lighting a parking lot too? Pair wall packs with our LED shoebox area lights and keep the whole site on one ordinance-friendly spec.

Full cutoff wall pack FAQ

What does full cutoff mean?
A full cutoff fixture emits no light above the horizontal plane of the housing. All output is directed downward onto the wall and ground, which eliminates uplight into the sky and sharply reduces glare and light trespass onto neighboring properties.
Is the WP11F dark-sky compliant?
The WP11F is a full cutoff fixture with zero uplight, which is the core requirement in most municipal, HOA, and dark-sky outdoor-lighting ordinances. If your jurisdiction requires a specific certification or a maximum CCT, send us the ordinance text and we will confirm the right configuration before you order.
Are photocell, motion sensor, or battery backup options available?
Yes. The WP11F ships with automated dusk-to-dawn photocell functionality, and it is available with a microwave motion sensor or an emergency battery driver for egress code. Ask for the option you need on a quote and we will spec the right build.
What old fixture does it replace?
With 60, 90, 100, and 120W selectable output up to 19,200 lumens, one WP11F covers the range of typical 150 to 400W metal halide and HPS wall pack retrofits. Set the wattage on the fixture to match what the old lamp actually delivered.
Can it be installed in wet locations?
Yes. The WP11F is IP65 rated for wet locations, operates from -40°C to +50°C, and carries 6KV surge protection, so it handles exposed walls, coastal weather, and cold climates.
What voltage does it run on, and is installation difficult?
Universal 120-277V input with 0-10V dimming. It wall mounts over standard junction boxes with five 1/2 inch knockouts for flexible conduit entry. It is line-voltage work, so have a licensed electrician make the connection.
